“It’s Normal Doesn’t Mean It’s Right”

Written by ASTRO DE GREAT

Introduction:

We live in a world where the phrase “Everybody is doing it” has become the justification for choices, behaviors, and even beliefs. But let us be clear: normality does not equal morality. What is common isn’t always correct. What is accepted by the masses isn’t always aligned with truth, dignity, or justice. History proves it. Pain confirms it. And the conscience of the human soul whispers it: just because it’s normal doesn’t mean it’s right.

Slavery Was Once Normal…

Not long ago, people were bought and sold like cattle. Shackles on their wrists, whips on their backs  all accepted as normal in society. Children were born into chains, families ripped apart, cultures erased. It was legal. It was widely practiced. It was part of the economy. But was it right?

No.

It was evil dressed in routine. Normalized injustice. And it took brave hearts abolitionists, rebels, voices crying out in the wilderness to rise up and say, “This might be normal, but it’s not right.”

Segregation Was Once Normal…

Black children were denied education. Indigenous people were labeled inferior. Whites drank from one fountain, “coloreds” from another. That was normal. It was the law. But it wasn’t just.

Human dignity was crushed under the weight of “social order.” But people like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, and others broke that silence with a cry: “This has gone on too long.” And slowly, painfully, change came.

It cost lives. It shook nations. But it reminded humanity that being accepted doesn’t make it acceptable.

Even Today…

Today, millions remain stuck in toxic relationships because it’s “normal” to endure it for the sake of appearances. Corruption flows in offices because “that’s how it’s always been.” Young people sacrifice dreams on the altar of tradition. Women are silenced. Men are shamed for showing emotion. Children are told to obey, not to think.

We scroll through trauma, laugh at pain, glorify violence, and cancel empathy. And we call it normal.

But your soul knows the truth. Your spirit resists. Your heart cries silently in the night, whispering, “There must be more than this.”

To Be Different Is to Be Brave

You were not born to blend into brokenness. You are not here to submit to inherited dysfunction. To challenge “normal” is to choose growth, to choose healing, to choose purpose.

The road to truth is rarely paved with popularity. Jesus turned over temple tables. Mandela walked away from 27 years in prison with forgiveness, not revenge. Malala was shot for going to school. These are not people who chose normal   they chose what was right.

Ask Yourself…

  • Is the relationship you’re in truly love, or just “what people expect”?
  • Are your habits truly healthy, or just “what everyone does”?
  • Are you following tradition, or truth?
  • Are you quiet because it’s safe, or because it’s right?

Final Thoughts:

History will always be filled with the noise of what was normal. But it will be shaped by those who dared to challenge it.

So the next time you hear, “This is how it’s always been,” pause, reflect, and ask yourself:
Is it right?

Because your life, your peace, your destiny  they’re not worth sacrificing at the altar of the status quo.

It’s normal doesn’t mean it’s right.
