The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, the exam board has withheld 39,834 results due to alleged infractions, including widespread examination malpractice and registration irregularities.
Announcing the results in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, revealed that out of over 1.9 million candidates who sat for the UTME, a significant number are being investigated for misconduct.
> “We have withheld 39,834 results and are investigating 80 individuals involved in various forms of examination misconduct,” said Prof. Oloyede.
States With Highest Infractions
According to the Registrar, Anambra State recorded the highest number of malpractice cases, with 14 suspects currently under investigation. Other states with notable cases include Enugu, Imo, and Lagos.
Tech-Enabled Cheating and Registration Fraud
JAMB disclosed that over 2,157 candidates were flagged due to fingerprint rejection during registration, suggesting the use of impersonators. A further 3,656 results were withheld due to “extraneous fingerprints” — a practice where multiple individuals register under one candidate’s name.
Additionally, over 244 candidates were discovered to have subscribed to illegal “WhatsApp runs” groups that promised access to leaked questions. The board has vowed to prosecute all offenders and sanction complicit Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
Zero Tolerance Policy and Next Steps
Prof. Oloyede reiterated JAMB’s zero-tolerance policy for examination malpractice. He emphasized the need for continued reforms in registration processes and exam administration to protect the credibility of Nigeria’s education system.
Despite the challenges, he described the 2025 UTME as one of the most efficiently conducted in recent years.
How to Check Your Result
Candidates who wrote the UTME can now check their results by sending “UTMERESULT” via SMS to 55019 or 66019, using the same phone number used during registration.
