In a tragic turn of events, a member of the Man O War at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has been fatally stabbed in an altercation that occurred on the 29th of February, 2024.
The incident unfolded around 8:15 pm when a bike raider carrying two passengers crossed the Man O War checkpoints at the hostel A junction. Upon their return to the junction, officers attempted to halt them, but the situation quickly escalated when the passengers resisted and began shouting affiliations with a notorious group.
During the confrontation, the Man O War officer, identified as Chinagorum Marvellous Kingsley, was fatally stabbed in the neck by one of the passengers, Prince Francis Marvelous. Despite efforts to subdue the assailant, Kingsley succumbed to his injuries before reaching the Federal Medical Centre Owerri.
Prince Francis Marvelous, a student of the Imo State University (IMSU) studying English and Linguistics, was apprehended by the Man O War officers, but the police intervened and took him into custody. However, the police’s intervention resulted in violence, leaving several students unconscious and numerous Man O War officers wounded.
The identity of the accomplices, including a navy recruit and a FUTO student known as UNLEASH, is yet to be revealed as investigations continue.
In a statement released by the Man O War Nigeria, FUTO Command, they urge media outlets to accurately report the incident and respect the dignity of the deceased. Attached to the statement are videos of the apprehended suspect, photos of the weapon used, and images of the deceased officer.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the FUTO community, highlighting the need for increased security measures and vigilance on campus.
